Because I’m excessive, routine is a life saver for me.
Breakfast is one of those daily meals when I have a routine and pretty much
never derogate from it. For years, I had toasts with peanut butter and a banana.
I never got tired of it!
Now I want to limit my cholesterol intake, so the peanut
butter couldn’t be part of my routine. As a matter of fact, the whole breakfast
has been changed. Every morning I
have:
1 cup of low fat vanilla
yogurt
1 cup of raspberry (or other fruit if there is
none)
1 cup of Cherrios
It’s a little less than 250 calories and it sure keeps me
satisfied.
I find it’s so much easier to manage breakfast with this
practice. On days when I can’t make it happen I’ll eat something else but I
will not enjoy it as much. There might even be some occasions when we’ll
go out to a restaurant and I will have eggs
and bacon and I
won’t feel guilty about it because I
know the very next day I will be back to my
healthy habits.
Yesterday we came to our “summer house”. The road to our home is
not ploughed so we have to park the car at the campground entrance and carry everything we need for our stay.
First thing we did when we
arrived was to start the heater. Then we went outside to get warm! It
took 4 hours before our place was warm. This is what happens when you leave a
house with no heat in winter in Canada.
Our physical activity for
the afternoon was all about our “summer” home. We had not been back since the end of December. Well
about 3 feet of snow were waiting for us so my exercise consisted of shovelling a path to our
home, removing the snow from the roof of our 2 sheds and dig the truck out of its igloo. Christiane cleared
a path to our 2 sheds and to the wood pile and dug the fire pit out and cleared
an area around the pit to put our chairs.
This is the first time
we’ve come here and didn’t bring any wine with us. I have been wine free for 4 days now, my liver must be wondering what
is going on!
That is a great breakfast, and a much healthier one. I thrive on routine, so I have no trouble eating the same breakfast regularly. Your liver is celebrating!
ReplyDeleteI'm celebrating too, I'm rising my glass... of water to my liver health :) Hopefully, I don't celebrate too much, I hate to wake up with a water hangout tomorrow morning!

We know about your addiction to cake for breakfast and a lot of chocolate... so are you telling us, your parents, that it is in your routine?
DeleteMy goto breakfast is 1/2 cup oatmeal with blueberries and honey and then 2 hardboiled eggs.
ReplyDeleteYour talk about shoveling brought back some memories... I used to live in central Maine and have plenty of memories shoveling the roof to the woodshed. Now I get 1 inch of snow in DC and they shut the schools down for the week!
Sorry to bring back such awful shoveling memory FD :) We were in Harrisburg PA February 20th and they had close the school because it was too cold, we were wearing just a small fall coat, I guess it's all relative.
DeleteI know I'm new to your blog ....... and for the past seven years I have lived the LCHF lifestyle. It all started when my husband Eddie was diagnosed a Type 2 Diabetic . The so called healthy breakfasts of toast, cereal, orange juice had not done him any favours and were quickly binned.
ReplyDeleteEvery morning we now enjoy eggs and bacon, or eggs a lower carb sausage made with 97% meat and a handful of mushrooms.
By lowering the amount of starchy carbs we eat it improved his blood sugar numbers to that of a non diabetic.We don't need to eat highly processed foods.

DeleteHow’s your husband doing? My mother in law was also diabetics, but I think she didn’t follow much of a diet; she was managing with the amount of insulin she was shooting.

Hi Richard, my husband is doing very well thanks. Since diagnosis seven years ago and discovering the LCHF lifestyle his diabetes has been under control. The only diabetes medication he takes is two metformin tablets each day. The LCHF lifestyle has benefited him, not only in weight loss, but great blood sugar control. It has also benefited me. I am not a diabetic, nor did I have any weight problem or any other underlying health issues. But it is amazing how much better the body, feels and re-acts to this lifestyle. I just wouldn't go back to my old ways.Obviously you have to get the balance that is right for you low carb, high fat, moderate protein .... it is not difficult.

The article starts off "for all 192 countries in the world, for men and women, for CVD deaths and all-cause mortality, the HIGHER the cholesterol levels, the LOWER the death rate; the LOWER the cholesterol levels, the HIGHER the death rate."
So you have to ask yourself do you want to keep cholesterol levels low ? Of course it is up to you what you decide.
