The Day after the Food Orgy

Yesterday, I increased the amount of food I ate. I also went over-board and ate less than healthy choices. As Ivy commented, it was high in salt.
Why on earth would I do such a thing? I have been so good for 3 months and suddenly, I went rogue.
My health plan is to listen to myself; I don't eat once I feel full, I choose (except yesterday) food that will help me get healthier and disregard the ones that are not helping. I exercise but if I encounter a problem I slow down my training. I'm really in tuned with my body.
I expect results and I meet them every time. I keep track of those results daily. My problem is I couldn't explain the latest results on the scale and that worries me.
Even yesterday, I had added 2 toasts with natural PB to my breakfast (minus the cereals), I had nachos for lunch and to add in-salt to the day, burger and fries for supper... and I lost .4 pound!
Well when I say yesterday was a food orgy I might be exaggerating. If I compare yesterday with any day I used to have before embarking on this health journey there is quite a difference: The PB is natural, no high salt or sugar content. I had less nachos than I would have had and the nachos were not laced with sour cream, instead I just had a spoon full of plain Greak Yoghurt. I ate the burger but not all the fries like I used to and I would have had chips and chocolate in the evening, and wine. Yesterday I didn't eat any snacks and drank only water.
I also walked about 24 K steps as opposed to my past life where, if I measure the distance between the fridge and the sofa, I walked maybe 500 steps.
So I can explain why I lost .4 pound yesterday. I'm going to increase my calorie intake to keep the loss at a normal rate but I will only increase it with healthy choices (More fruits and vegetables). I'll keep a really close tab of where my weight is going.
I feel bad; so many of you have the opposite problem, and here I am complaining about losing weight too fast, but the whole exercise is to learn about how to be healthy and gaining weight or losing weight too fast is just not healthy!
Any suggestions about healthy snacks?

  1. I personally would not knowingly hurt myself in this way, or in the sunburn way. That being said, it simply doesn't matter if I agree or not. This is your journey. Your game. Your rules.

    As it should be.

    1. I was hoping everyone forgot about the sunburn...that was really stupid, I can be so smart one day and so dumb the next one :)

I didn't became obese by making wise and bright choices. So if I'm dumb for 2 days in a year and I learn something in the process... it will be a BIG improvement!

Yesterday I learned, I don't like eating badly any more, I really have change. I care about being healthy. I will learn more about health in the next year than the 55 previous year. You'll see!

    2. I have total faith that you will continue to succeed. One hundred percent. Your posts are honest and funny, and it's wonderful to see you doing so well.

Maybe stopping sugar is helping you drop faster.

Did you find a good snack? Tim likes cold chicken legs. But also cucumber slices and radishes.

    3. Thank you Ivy, a satisfied customer is a returning customer ha ha ha

Today's post will be about why, I'm opening the water valve... just a spoiler (because you were a contributing factor :) )

Dropping sugar will help EVERYONE drop faster... it's a poison!

I can't say Tim snacks and mine are compatible... I'm more a "fruity" style LOL

    4. We have organic apples, but really, we don't snack much at all here. But the if I'm running late (which happens), with supper like by an hour or so, I'll give him cuke slices or a leg to hold him over.

In the mornings he gets a piece of fruit as I prepare breakfast.

  2. I love apples and peanut butter. (I make my own in the vita-mix. It is like eating a handful of peanuts.)

  3. Healthy snacks:

1 ounce of nuts - I like pistachios or occasionally almonds. I've had this almost every day for years.

Berries - I personally love blackberries or blueberries

Dark Chocolate - I eat between about 50 and 85 calories of dark chocolate (at least 70% cacao) several days a week. I like the individually wrapped Ghiradelli squares but sometimes I buy a bar and then dole it out over about 4 days.

    1. Thank you for the suggestions Kitty,

Today we are going to Costco and one of the item on my list is almond. I am also a big fan of berries, I ate a cup of raspberry every morning.

You sure sound like you have a lot of self-control, buying a dark chocolate bar and eating it in so many days. Good for you! But I'm not surprise, you are so successful at what you're doing!

  4. ...all of my suggestions have to do with grains. I hope you're still eating grains, despite cutting sugar?

  5. Only just seen this post Richard ... but some 'healthy snacks' for me are:

Pepper sticks - my favourite are the red peppers
    Carrot sticks
    Slices of cucumber
    Cheese nibbles
    Slice of Ham
Low carb sausage bites (I use sausages with at least 97% meat content.
    Pork Scratchings
Handful of macadaemia nuts or almonds
    Blueberries, Raspberries or Strawberries
A square of the 85% or 90% dark chocolate

The above is not all the snacks but just a few suggestions.

As you are probably aware my lifestyle is LCHF
I eat no more than 50 carbs per day, balanced with higher healthy natural fats such as butter, avocado and moderate protein. I also exercise daily and do my best to get a good nights sleep.

They say a regular sleep pattern is best, but for some this is not always easy to achieve ... and I know FogDog is struggling with this at the moment because of his knee problems.

    Take Care

    All the best Jan

  6. Fruits and veggies are my favourite choice! Stuff like yogurt, too. But you need to read the ingredients carefully; many of them are not that good.

    1. We have yogurt every day for breakfast, sometimes we have it in snack too. It's that good! We always have the no fat Danone yogurt.
